Transformational Agreements

The University of Pretoria is a member of the South African National Library & Information Consortium (SANLIC), a non-profit organization comprising various member institutions. SANLIC’s primary role is to negotiate the procurement of and secure access to information resources on behalf of its members. Among its key responsibilities is negotiating licenses and publishing agreements with publishing houses. These agreements enable researchers to benefit from reduced Article Processing Charges (APCs) or even receive a 100% waiver, depending on the terms of the agreement.

SANLiC concluded multi-year Transformational (Read & Publish) agreements with five publishers, started in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The University of Pretoria (UP) participated in the following three:

  1. The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) (2021- 2023),
  2. Emerald (2022 – 2024), and
  3. Wiley (2022 – 2025).

These agreements provided UP researchers and students unrestricted access to scholarly content and allowed UP authors to freely share and disseminate their research globally through 1585 accredited journals.
