A journal is an academic publication that features articles written by scholars about their research. Most of them have been checked by other academics (i.e. peer reviewed) and they are more reliable than general web articles and newspaper articles.

Databases are structured collections of records that index journal articles, conference papers, reports, book chapters, and other scholarly documents. These databases are created by commercial publishers or academic societies and are often global in scope, allowing researchers to access a broad range of literature within a specific discipline. When searching a large international database, the articles found may or may not be accessible through the University of Pretoria (UP) Libraries.
Started in 1973 when the Department of Architecture at the University of Pretoria began a project to index and retrieve information from architectural journals. Articles from 93 international and South African journals were indexed over the years to enable users to access information on architects, buildings, building materials and methods, design theory, urban design, and much more.
Art Source covers a broad range of related subjects, from fine, decorative and commercial art, to various areas of architecture and architectural design. Providing over 600 full-text journals, more than 220 full-text books, and a collection of over 63,0000 images, it is designed for use by a diverse audience, including art scholars, artists, designers, students and general researchers.
