Facility Updates

  • Please be aware that there are limited spaces available due to COVID-19 restrictions. 
  • Study Spaces, Group Rooms, and the Seminar Room are booked on a first-come-first-served basis on the booking system (see Booking System and Hours tab).
  • Please be aware that if you are late for your booking it may be cancelled and given to another student. 
  • Please be aware that we currently do not offer printing services in the RC. Printing can be down in the Education Library or at the printing centre on campus.

Auditorium

Facility includes:

  • 96 seats
  • Projector
  • Microphone and speaker system 
  • Vidyo*

*Vidyo embed real-time video into digital communications (video conferencing). People connect visually every day through Vidyos secure, scalable technology and cloud-based services. 

Seminar Room

Facility includes:

  • 20 seats 
  • Projector
  • Smart board
  • Conferencing and collaboration capabilities
  • Allocated computer (laptop connectivity/presentations)

Group Rooms

Facility includes:

  • 10 seats 
  • boardroom style table

There are two spacious group rooms available. Group room 4-44 and Group Room 4-48.1

Research and Writing Space

Facility includes:

  • Desks:
    • 42 individual spaces without computers
      • 9 large cubicles
      • Study desks with dividers
  • Desks with computers:
    • 30 computers in total with varying size desk (12 study carrels, 4 carousels - with diviiders
      • Some with Windows 7 and some with Windows 10
      • Some with Office 2010 and some with Office 2013

Students/Researchers are welcome to use their laptops at any unit (preferably those without a computer), where electricity plug-points and wireless connectivity are available.

Desks are available on a daily first-come-first-served basis.

Reading Space

Facility includes:

  • Desks:
    • 15 individual study desks that are spaced apart
    • Please be aware that not all study desks are within range of a plug point. Students must please bring their own two-pin adapters. 
  • Couches and reading chairs
    • Couches and reading chairs are scattered
    • ​​​​​​​Please be aware that not all couches and reading chairs are within range of a plug point. Students must please bring their own two-pin adapters. 

Please be aware that the research commons does not provide computers in this space. 

Desks and seating are available on a daily first-come-first-served basis. 

Reservations for the study desks can be made by using the Library Booking system. There are no reservations for couches and reading chairs. Please see the Booking system and Hours tab for guidance. 

 

Kitchen and Lounge Area

This facility includes:

  • 6 high tables with four bar stools each
  • 2 coffee tables with couches and reading chairs 
  • Kitchen sink

This is the only facility in the research commons where food is allowed to be consumed. There are no facilities to purchase food and/or drink in the research commons. Students must bring their own. There are facilities close by on campus where students may purchase food and/or drink.
