Special Collections: Using the Collections

Using the Collections

  • Special Collections is open to students, staff and researchers of the University of Pretoria, as well as to members of the public, for research purposes and visits.
  • Clients must request material from the staff member on duty who will collect it for them.
  • Information resources may not be taken out and may only be consulted in the Special Collections Reading Room.
  • Information resources are not available for interlending, but may be available for digitisation on request.
  • Sections of information resources may be scanned or photocopied within the limits of copyright law provided there is no danger of the process damaging the item.
  • Valuable material may be consulted by clients under the supervision of the staff member on duty and clients may be requested to handle the material in a specific way.
  • The use of digital cameras is allowed.
  • Please only use a pencil when taking notes from a Special Collections book.
  • Please do not use Post-Its, sticky notes or any type of adhesive flag when marking pages in a Special Collections book or journal.
