South African Library Week: How has the library changed your life? The Department of Library Services (DLS) is celebrating South African Library Week (SALW) during the week of 20-26 March 2023. The Library and Information Association of South Africa's (LIASA) theme for this year is “Libraries: telling powerful stories”. Humans have told stories for as long as we can remember. These stories are used to share news, amplify heroes' accomplishments, pass on cultural traditions, and transfer knowledge and history. Libraries have been central in collecting, preserving, and sharing these stories. Stories make difficult information easier to understand. Stories can change the future for the better. This year we are focusing on telling those stories, both from a librarian’s and a library user’s perspective, focusing on the achievements of libraries in South Africa over the years, as libraries transform to fit into the New World. The DLS invites all University of Pretoria students and staff members to share YOUR story with us: How did the library change your life? We would love to hear your stories!
