Membership & Registration (incl. forms)

To be able to fully benefit from all the services, facilities and resources offered by the library, you need to be a registered user. To access our electronic resources you will be prompted for your student/staff number and a password.

External users do not have e-access off campus, therefore no portal access will be given and no password is required. Please acquaint yourself with all the information regarding accessing the campus before you make arrangements to visit us. 

Important: Access to library services are valid until completion of studies.
Contact your Department or Faculty if your Library access is not activated.

After registration at the university has been finalized, you will automatically be registered at the Library after 24 hours.

UP staff and Retired personnel

Library membership will be renewed annually for staff and on request for retired staff.
UP Alumni As a registered member of the Tuks Alma Mater Fund library access is one of the benefits.

Other External Users

 

Please see information below:

Note that all users and visitors without access cards need to contact the library (at least the day before) to organise a campus access pin number. Once a person is registered and a card obtained the card will grant access. 

See the respective borrowing privileges where applicable. 

 

Day visitors Before the planned visit send an email to wanani.sitsula@up.ac.za / bongi.letlape@up.ac.za for details. An once off access pin will be created after payment of R100 is made.
Clients from other SA Higher Education Institutions under the CHELSA agreement Masters, PhD students and lecturers under the CHELSA agreement can register with the library. A Letter of Introduction from their home institution library and a copy of their ID / Passport should be emailed to mart.muller@up.ac.za, prior to the first visit.

ARC / Embassy staff members

ARC / Embassy staff members, please e-mail the Letter of Introduction and a copy of ID / passport to mart.muller@up.ac.za.
An annual R50 Library registration fee is payable.

E@UP Access according to a class list sent and pre-arrangement of cards and payments.
Users for 6 or 12 months R1 700 for 6 months (VAT included) or R3 400 for 12 months (VAT included) 
To be paid at the Student Service Centre. or via EFT.  See banking details below.
Registration form for membership should be completed and mailed to mart.muller@up.ac.za with a copy of ID / passport.

To apply for above External membership, complete the following steps:


STEP 1: Ensure where applicable, that the letter of recommendation from your institution was mailed to mart.muller@up.ac.za
STEP 2: Complete the relevant registration form below, and return it with a copy of ID / passport to mart.muller@up.ac.za
STEP 3: Make the necessary membership fee payment (if applicable) and send the proof to mart.muller@up.ac.za
STEP 4: A waiting period of approximately 48 hours will apply.
STEP 5: Visit the Library for a referral letter to the SSC to obtain your access card at an additional cost of R120.

Make sure that you acquaint yourself with the borrowing and other privileges and policies.
