Emotional support

Not ready to speak to someone yet? See the Student Counselling Unit's self-help material and podcasts.

Life can be challenging sometimes and with the added pressures of completing a Master's or PhD course can be very taxing on our emotional and physical well-being.

It is important to remember to take care of ourselves:

  • Be kind.
  • Reward yourself.
  • Most importantly, talk. If you are experiencing strain, talk to a friend, family or community member.
  • Seek help from the Student Counselling Unit free-of-charge. Do not suffer in silence.
  • Make use of peer support groups (call 0800747 747 or send an email to press@anxiety.org.za to be incorporated into a support group).
  • The Postgraduate Support Hub is another avenue of assistance.
