Library Technical Services

The Library Technical Services are responsible for the acquisition, organization, preservation, and provision of access to materials in all formats for the library's collections. These activities are central to the Department of Library Services' vision to redefine academic librarianship in support of the University of Pretoria's research, teaching, and learning strategy and core functions. A key strategic goal of the DLS is to provide proactive, relevant, and user-driven information resources that align with the university's academic agenda. This involves developing a balanced and relevant information collection in all formats, providing access to online collections, and supplying the necessary equipment for using all types of information.

Library Technical Services comprise the following Units:

  • Acquisitions

    Acquisitions are responsible for ordering, receiving, invoice payment, subscription maintenance, and processing of donations.

  • Cataloguing & Metadata Services

    This unit is responsible for creating organized and standardized descriptions of library materials, both physical and digital, to facilitate efficient resource discovery.

  • Collections maintenance

    The Collections maintenance team is responsible for ensuring that the library's physical collections are properly organized, maintained, and secured, and that they are easily accessible to library users.

  • Bindery

    The Bindery is responsible for the provision of high-quality binding services that support the university's academic and administrative needs. They also offer specialised binding services to other universities and the general public.
