Information- and Help desks at the Learning Centre

 

Information Desk

The information desk can assist you with all your information-related inquiries, from finding a book in the library, referencing a journal article or book to finding relevant information for an assignment.
So if you are tired of searching and you are struggling to find the information you need, let us lighten your burden by assisting you.
Professional evening staff are also available to assist you after hours at the help desk. Please do not hesitate to contact us or use the ASK / CHAT system.

Help desk

The staff can assist you with any problems you may experience with the computers and printers in the Learning Centre, as well as with clickUP and password related problems. There is also a Student Advisers desk as well as an IT support desk

Computer Facilities at the Learning Centre

 

Carousels

The carousels have computer facilities where students can access the Library webpage and the Learning Management system (clickUP).
These facilities are mainly for quick access and printing, so the time limit for these computers is 30 minutes per student.
Quizzes and the online submission of assignments should not be completed at these facilities but rather at the open computer area on level 3.

 

Open Computer Area

There are 102 computers with 130 seats in the open computer area, where students can access the following:

  • Internet
  • Word processing
  • clickUP

 

Access to computers

Use your portal / clickUP password.
Follow the instructions on the screen or ask for assistance at the help desk or information desk.

 

Printing

There are eight printers available on level 3.

  • TuksPrint Information
  • Generate a printing pin.

Physical Facilities at the Learning Centre

 

Auditorium

The auditorium area consists of:

  • A smart podium, 85 seats (and loose chairs), 4 plasma screens and Vidyo facilities
  • A kitchen and service area
  • A lounge area
  • Restrooms

The use of any of these facilities are restricted to library hours only, booking is essential

Training Centre

Training room 1

  • This facility has 34 computers and 4 plasma screens.

Training room 2

  • This facility has 22 computers and 2 plasma screens.

 

Discussion Facilities

All Group Discussion rooms for students can be booked online at up-za.libcal.com

Discussion Room 1

This facility consists of:

  • Two plasma screens
  • One table with 10 seats

Discussion Room 2

This facility consists of:

  • White board
  • Plasma screen
  • One table with 10 seats

Training Room 3

This facility consists of:

  • Four tables with 16 seats and computer facilities at each table
  • This may be used as group discussion areas
  • Each table may be booked for two hours at a time

Open Group Discussion Areas

The Learning Centre also offers access to open group discussion areas with Wi-Fi connectivity. There are 84 seats available in this area on level 3.

 

Individual Study Spaces

There are 35 seats on the balcony on level 4 of the Library, where students can do individual, quiet studying. This facility has Wi-Fi connectivity and power points.
